PROGRAM OVERVIEW
With increased screen time due to social media, video games and online learning, American children are often inundated by unhealthy lifestyles. Stressed out families and kids are often over scheduled leaving little time for parents to lead a healthy, balanced life by example. Many times, practice or tutors run late into the evening which leads to less healthy, balanced or nutritious meals. In fact, family dinners can be rare in many households. Research shows health benefits and importance of eating together as a family.
Not only is it important for kids to learn the value of healthy food choices and physical activity but it is also essential to teach them the necessity of having a healthy brain and mind. Parents and teachers don't have the time or expertise to provide this essential information comprehensively and consistently. Healthy Starts programs consist of grade appropriate, relevant and relatable health lessons for students grades TK-12. Students learn to recognize when and why their body can feel healthier some days than others. Most importantly, we make sure kids can recognize if any lifestyle habits are the reason their body feels different some days. We teach them self-care tools they can use to take care of their health for life. The beauty of Healthy Starts' interactive healthy lessons, is students forget they are in school learning valuable and essential lifelong tools. Students find Healthy Start lessons truly enjoyable which allows learning about their bodies and the importance of self-care appealing. They come away with a feeling of empowerment towards their mental and physical health. We provide a healthy toolbox full of knowledge, suggestions and applicable practices to ensure long, healthy lives.
Healthy Starts has been designed to teach students in grades TK-12 about the basic anatomy of their heart, lungs, brain and digestive system. Along the way, they learn why it is important to take care of their body and mind. Because HealthyStarts lessons are interactive, relatable and relevant kids become motivated to make healthy choices. After a Healthy Starts lesson, kids are excited about making health changes and look forward to the next Healthy Starts classroom or video visit. Healthy Starts has been in schools for fourteen years teaching more than 6,000 California kids about the benefits and joy of making healthy choices. Given the wonderful media coverage, Healthy Starts expanded to more than 20 schools in one year alone.
